![]() | Announcing: Two Summer 2009 Sessions |
Daily classes meet for one hour and fifteen minutes, or one hour and thirty minutes, Monday through Thursday, for a total of 25 hours during each session. Morning, midafternoon and late-afternoon scheduling is available.
Diagnostic testing, administered over two visits, is selected to pinpoint specific areas of strength and weakness, assists in determining present reading, spelling and writing and math abilities, indicates attentional, perceptual or developmental factors to be considered in instruction, and helps identify effective remedial techniques. The fee for diagnostic academic evaluation for first-time students entering the summer program is $235.00. (No additional testing fee is required for students continuing for all or part of the second session or into the fall after-school session.)
A specialized program is outlined, and goals are set for development of skills in the appropriate combination of the following areas: beginning reading, phonics, intermediate or advanced word-recognition and fluency, vocabulary, spelling, silent reading comprehension, writing skills, study and memory techniques.
One-to-one or two-to-one scheduling is recommended on the basis of testing results and through consultation with parents. Tuition for one-to-one instruction is $67.00 an hour during the summer session; the session fee for small-group two-to-one* instruction, when appropriate, is $1025.00 plus a $22.00 materials fee. During the five-week session, students attend their small-group lessons seventy-five minutes per day, while in the four-week session, instruction is for ninety minutes per day. As much as possible, we endeavor to accommodate the special scheduling requirements of individual students.

The advanced reading course, for high-school students and students entering college, emphasizes reading rate, comprehension and recall, as well as vocabulary, writing and study strategies.
Composition skills, a special course for middle- and high-school students, stresses organization, thought development, grammar and basic usage through guided practice in the types of writing students must master for success in high-school and college assignments.
Instruction in math and test-taking skills is included in the curriculum.
We welcome inquiries from parents and teachers on all phases of the Center programs. Under special circumstances some partial scholarships may be available.
